Yesterday was International Women's Day, a day meant to highlight the accomplishments and the struggles women face. I appreciate the holiday, but hate that we need it. Every other day should not be focused on men and the masculine. There should be a balance.
I also found myself a little upset yesterday as I read the comments on two articles. One was on Jessica Simpson's new magazine cover, where she is naked (but covering her "lady" parts) and pregnant. Another was Snooki's magazine cover, discussing her pregnancy and engagement. The comments were incredibly sexist and disrespectful. Comments were made about their bodies, their relationship statuses, etc. In the case of mostly Snooki, comments were made about her unborn child. It made me sad to read them on a day which is supposed to honor women. Then again, it makes sense. Many of the comments were about how both women are pregnant and unwed...and, well, have you turned the TV on lately? We have a long way to go.
Without further ado...
