If you read my other blog, Delightful Writes, you know that I've been simplifying.
One of my big simplifying moves last week was to cancel my cable and sell my TVs.
What I wasn't really expecting was that simplifying would help my writing.
One TV was sitting on top of a desk I had gotten a while ago. I had since gotten another, "vintage/antique" desk that in theory was my desk, but really was a glorified storage place.
I never sat at my desk to work.
I didn't like how my desk and chair didn't really fit together.
I was attracted by the idea of the antique desk. Not the actual desk.
If I am honest, I've never been one for working at my desk. No matter what kind it is.
I also didn't like the location of my desk.
I'm a fan of desks by windows so I can glance out.
I swear to you...it helps my writing.
My desk was facing a brick wall. A lovely brick wall, but brick nonetheless.
But then this amazing thing happened:
I got rid of my TV and then moved my old desk to bisect my new one.
I get more writing space AND the new desk is facing the window...which means I get a view.
I've been sitting at my desk, writing, pretty much non-stop since I moved the desk.
One day the vintage desk may go away, when I decide I don't need two desks. Or maybe my version of simplifying will one day be having no TV, a couch and two desks. Who knows. At least you can even see my desk. That is an improvement.
All I know is I kind of love my new set-up and anything that gets me writing is a winner.
Do you have particular places that you write? Does your desk/writing space have to be set-up in a particular way?
*did you see? my book of poetry is now available in paperback...check out the writer's shop.
