Ouch

Today I got a massage.

Now that sounds like it would be amazing. That I would leave feeling all warm and cozy on this dreary day.

Not the case. I got a deep-tissue massage and...it hurt. A lot. I got the massage because of hip pain I've been having post-runs. With a little over three weeks to go before my half marathon (!!), I want to make sure my body is in the best shape possible.

Now what surprised me the most about the massage wasn't how much it, well, hurt. Instead, I was surprised by what hurt the most. My legs, glutes, hips...these were the areas I worried about and, I was right, they did hurt. But the areas that caused me to moan (not in a good "mmmm" way, but in a bad "uuuggghhh" way) or say "ow!" were my neck, shoulders, and my wrists.

MY WRISTS?!

Now I know that carpal tunnel isn't that too far into the future for me. I wake up with my wrists numb. Chopsticks and writing with a pen/pencil can hurt after a while. So...I knew that things were up in my wrists, but when the masseuse bent my wrists back and then massaged my palm and later my forearm, my whole hand freaked out and I yelled "ow!".

"It is because you write," she said with a smile.

More like because I am a 25-year-old who can spend way too many hours reading way too many things on the internet, but I'll just say it is because I write because that sounds more romantic.

So writers can sustain injuries. Just FYI.

Now excuse me while I go write some more.
