This afternoon I turned on the TV and was face to face with an old favorite.
In preparation for boarding school, I watched Dead Poets Society over and over again. I probably knew every line and every scene. If I could have tattooed 'carpe diem' into my skin at 14, I probably would have and loved it.
In reality, boarding school didn't end up being like Dead Poets Society, but I did play Puck in A Midsummer Night's Dream and I did head the Poetry Club. And while I wasn't asked to call my English teachers "O Captain! My Captain!," I did learn a lot from them. Especially a love of poetry and writing. And a love of speaking my mind.
Not sure my classes were like Mr. Keating's though...
